The Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated every year on Dec. 12. According to Catholic tradition, the virgin appeared to the indigenous Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531. Juan Diego was a Catholic convert who in 1531 had a vision of the Virgin Mary. He is a native of Mexico who was one of the first indigenous people to convert to Christianity. It is believed he was visited by the Virgin Mary at Tepeyac four times in December 1531. When the local Spanish bishop demanded proof of the apparition, it was on Juan Diego's rough cloak that the Virgin of Guadalupe miraculously imprinted her image.
