First Communion at St Pius X

A Columban student, Elia Poasa from Koromakawa in Labasa Parish, was one of the team of teachers for the 73 children who made their first Holy Communion on the last day of July, 2022 in Raiwaqa.

He enjoyed communicating the Christian faith to the children in an understandable way. Weekly preparation and teaching gave him confidence in his ability to share his faith with others. This experience has been an important part of his formation this year.

First Holy Communion was not held for the last two years because of COVID-19 so last Sunday was a joyful celebration for many families in Raiwaqa parish.

The new communicants, with the girls dressed mostly in white and the boys in white shirts, black trousers and tie, lined up at the side of the church before Mass. Columbans Fr Paul Tierney, assisted by Fr Felisiano Fatu, brought up the rear of the procession into the church.

Fr Paul was the principal concelebrant in a packed church. We wish God’s blessing on all the families and especially the children who made their first communion on Sunday.
