Tribute to Fr Richard O’Sullivan

Tribute to Fr Richard O’Sullivan by Fr Pat Raleigh, St Columban’s Dalgan Park, Navan. Who passed away early on Saturday morning 26th March 2022.

Remembering with gratitude Fr Paddy Dooher and Richard 'Dick' O'Sullivan. RIP

Here in Dalgan today there is a lot of sadness with the deaths of Frs Paddy and Richard (Dick). They died within a few hours of each other; Paddy on the evening of the lovely feast of the Annunciation, Friday, March 25, and Richard in the very early hours of this morning, Saturday, March 26.

Fr Richard (Dick) O'Sullivan died peacefully surrounded by his family who were very devoted to him. He had been ill for some time. A native of Kilgarven, Co Kerry he was very proud of his Kerry roots. Dick will be very fondly remembered by the people of Fiji, Australia, and other places. He was an excellent teacher and was a member of the staff at the Faith and Mission Courses in Dalgan. He will be laid to rest here in Dalgan this coming Tuesday. I personally thank both Frs Paddy and Dick for their wonderful contribution to God's mission as Columbans. May they now enjoy the warm embrace of our gracious God.

Tribute to Fr Dick O’Sullivan by Fr Simon Mani – Rector of the Pacific Regional

Bula Fr Johnny,

I wish to convey my condolences to you and your Columban family as you mourn and celebrate the lives of your two confreres.

Fr. Dick O Sullivan was a lecturer at PRS for many years until he could not teach due to his declining health. As a lecturer, he was very professional in his work. He spent many years as a moderator, residing at PRS. He taught me theology in the early nineties and was my supervisor for my final year thesis. On Friday night, myself and Ioane Sigarara were talking about him.

A spiritual man who lived his life as a testimony of God's love and mercy has now gone to his resting place.

He had fond memories of his time in Labasa and Naleba and still remembered the names of many of my family members. He is remembered in Labasa as the founding father of the current Naleba Chapel and the founding member of Holy Family Parish Labasa.

They will be remembered in our prayers.

May Fr. Dick rest in peace.
