COLUMBAN COMPANIONS IN FIJI, ACTIVITIES AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) 2023

In the past few weeks at the St. Pius X Raiwaqa Parish, there have been a lot of buzz among the members of the Columban Companions in Mission (CCIM). There is a fortnightly meeting on Thursday to discuss and plan for the upcoming Annual General Meeting in November, an upcoming fundraising Kava Barrel Island Night theme for the members on Friday June 30th at the parish. This is a major fundraising drive by the CCIM as they prepare to host the National AGM on November 10th - 11th in Suva. Members and friends will buy a ticket for $10 so that they can enjoy kava from 6pm to 10 pm on Friday June 30th. The fundraising is to help with the preparations for the AGM especially with food, accommodation, and other expenses in hosting it by the Raiwaqa CCIM members. As of present, there are registered 120 CCIM members from all over Fiji who are enthusiastic about joining and participating in the annual AGM meeting. The occasion is usually characterized by fun, laughter, dancing, meeting, and the election of a CCIM national coordinator, socializing and soli (collected amount of money donated by the CCIM members to support the work of the Columban Mission Society in the Region of Oceania and especially in Fiji. The donated amount is to be decided by the members.  Last year the amount was $2000 per CCIM group. There is great anticipation and support among the members but also from Columban priests, lay missionaries, students, and co-workers in preparation for the AGM.

The Columban Companions in Mission have four main goals. They encapsulate what the purpose of the group is all about with a mission outreach and orientation. The four amins are:

  1. To pray for Missionaries
  2. To encourage Missionary Vocations
  3. To be Missionaries in Fiji
  4. To contribute financially towards the Mission

I sincerely thank the CCIM members for their ongoing support and generosity in supporting the missionary endeavors of the Missionary Society of St. Columban. Let us continue to implore the guidance and prompting of the Holy Spirit for all the members and for the success of the AGM in November.
