Fiji Child Protection Policy Level 1 Training

Powerpoint presentation prepared by Barbara Malimali

With the numerous cases of child abuse here in Fiji, society members and co-workers a total of 10 participants underwent a training on Safeguarding which was facilitated by Ms Barbara Malimali at the Columban Central House on Thursday 9th November 2023. Participants were taken through the Basics of Child Protection and the Child Protection Policy of the Region of Oceania, Country of Fiji followed by discussions. The CPP aims to:

  1. Create a safe space for all people with focus particularly for children and young people;
  2. Eliminate the risk of abuse, misconduct and the misuse of positional power especially given our traditional setting in Fiji and the position that religious leaders hold;
  3. Ensure that all cases of suspected abuse and misconduct are handled thoroughly; and
  4. Ensure that all leaders and program are safe.

We pray and hope through the intercessions of our patron St Columban that we will continue to work together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children and young people.
