Invitation from Pacific Conferences of Churches invites various faiths to attend a Prayer Vigil for Kanaky.

On Thursday, 30th May 2024, I had the opportunity to attend and participate in a prayer vigil organized by the Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC) to support the Kanaky people of New Caledonia. The event was held at Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral attracting a diverse group of attendees committed to social justice and solidarity. The vigil aimed to raise awareness about the Kanaky people's struggles for independence and self-determination. The gathering allowed participants to reflect on the struggles faced by the Kanak people, promoting awareness and advocacy for their rights and cultural heritage. Individuals from different backgrounds demonstrated their commitment to peace, understanding, and support by coming together, reinforcing the idea that collective action can drive positive change.

Attendees participated in a candlelight vigil, symbolizing hope and resilience. This prayer vigil was a profound experience and a powerful reminder of the importance of unity and collective action in advocating for peace.

Ultimately, the vigil honoured those affected and inspired ongoing dialogue and collaboration among faith communities, laying the groundwork for future efforts in support of justice and reconciliation.
