St Maria di Rosa

St Maria Di RosaSt Mary Di Rosa took every opportunity to serve God and His word. At the age of 17, she was arranging retreats and special missions for her Parish and setting up a women’s guild. With her accomplishments, at the age of 24 she was asked to become supervisor of a workhouse for poor girls. Then she noticed that there was no safe place for girls to go to at the end of the day so she quit the workhouse and set up a boarding house for these girls.

At 27, she was appointed superior of the Handmaids Charity, a religious society whose purpose was to dedicate all their time and attention to the sufferings in hospital during the cholera outbreak in 1863. She and the girls of the Handmaids Charity served in the military hospitals during the war and even went out to the battlefield to give spiritual and physical comfort to the wounded and dying.

She died in 1855 at the age of 42.
