Peter Canisius was born on the 8th of May, 1521 and was a renowned Jesuit Priest. He was known to have strong support for the Catholic faith during the Protestant Reformation in Germany; the restoration of the Catholic Church in Germany is largely attributed to the work of the Society of Jesus which he led.
He is venerated in the Catholic church as a Saint and a Doctor of the church; he died on the 21st of December, 1597 and was canonized on the 21st of May, 1925 in Rome by Pope Pius XI.
