“Confidently waiting for the Lord allows us to find comfort and courage in the dark moments of our lives.” Advent is a continuous call to hope: it reminds us that God is present in history to lead it to its ultimate goal, to lead it to its fullness, which is the Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ. God is present in the history of humanity, He is the “God-with-us”, God is not distant, he is always with us, to the extent that very often he knocks on the door to our heart. God walks beside us to support us. The Lord does not abandon us; He accompanies us through the events of our lives to help us discover the meaning of the journey the meaning of everyday life, to give us courage when we are under duress or suffering.
[Pope Francis]
On this first Sunday of Advent, as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Jesus’ arrival as a gift to all humanity; let’s stir up in our hearts and homes a sense of anticipation. We pray that hope would rise up in our spirits in a tangible and life- giving way.
Heavenly Father,
Let your hope arise in our hearts!
Lift our eyes up to see that you alone are where our hope comes from.
Help us to shake off the anxiety, discouragements, and distractions that
have filled this year. May we pause to remember that we have hope in
you.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord,
Amen.
