Getting A Good Night's Rest

6 October 1996,

Our pastoral year seminarian confided in me today. I’m not sure why. Maybe it is because his time here is nearly finished and he is getting ready to leave.

He told me that he sometimes couldn’t sleep well because he could hear Fr Tom Daly’s snoring coming through the wooden walls from the room next door. He said that he discovered a way to solve this problem. He would leave his room walk along the corridor and go through a wooden door into the bathroom area of the presbytery. The wooden door was at right angles to a door to Fr Daly’s room. So our seminarian would open this door and then let it bang shut. Fr Daly would wake and return to sleep quickly but without snoring. Smart!

But I am sleeping on the other side of the seminarian’s room and I snore – louder than Fr Daly, I think. I am wondering what solution he might have to this problem!
