St Ignatius of Loyola - Fr Willie Lee

In the Gospel today, Jesus invites us to be like the mustard seed whose potential blossoms with patience and perseverance – the smallest seed grows into the biggest shrub, in time!

Likewise, even in the little that we do, we can contribute to the building of the Kingdom of God, in time. Often, the fruits of our efforts or the providence of God may not be physically visible. Those who consider their efforts worthless or fail to recognize their potential are also denying the power of God to work through them. Such was the case with the Israelites, who gave up on their God because they failed to tangibly experience His presence and the purpose of their virtuous living.
Perhaps we could draw inspiration from the parable of the mustard seed and keep in mind that however small we feel or however hopeless the situation, with God in the equation, we will surely grow into the biggest shrub.

Today, we celebrate the feast of St. Ignatius – one man who grew into a far-reaching community that works for the greater glory of God!
