The aim was to unite our voices on the importance of protecting the Sea. The different religious communities united and celebrated the importance of the sea in God’s creation at the Fiji Museum on Saturday.
The Church of the Latter-Day Saints led off with a parade of ‘sea creatures’ and a film. Young ladies from the Arya Samaj used banners and commentary in their presentation. Four members of the Swami Vivekanand Cultural Centre performed a very energetic dance.
A large group of Muslim ladies interacted creatively with the audience in their presentation on the degradation of the ocean. They included a beautifully sung passage of the Holy Koran in Arabic. The Sanatan Dharm group did a mime and presented their research with a large colourful banner held by two of their mothers.
The Methodist youth performed a drama on littering and a lively item. Shobna Chanel’s group danced magnificently in their flowing purple costumes and white veils. Catholic youth mimed the littering of land and sea with consumer wrappings.A small Columban group led the singing of the Song of the Centre. Three speakers give short 5-minute inputs on the depravations of black sand mining, recycling, and our duty to respect God’s creation.
It was a great opportunity for the youths to express their gratitude for what has been given to us and feel connected as people of faith. I would like to express my heartfelt and sincere thanks to all for the wonderful day at the event. At the end a vegetarian meal was served to all.
