This resource offers a prayerful way for preparing to celebrate 1st September as World Day of Prayer for Creation.
Pope John XXIII was a man of action. He called the Second Vatican Council. Over decades as a Vatican diplomat, he learned to negotiate and get things done. He had a broad smile. He also had a deep love for good pastoral practice and saw that social systems were often stacked against good people and the hard-working poor. His analysis led him to write two letters, social encyclicals, about the Church as a Motherly Teacher, and Peace on Earth. In an interview detailing the complex church teaching in the encyclicals, he stopped and turned very serious. He said, “Do not let the ideal paralyse us”. His message was strong, “Do what we can now”.
This resource, 7 Days of Creation, Scriptural Prayers and Reflection, Year B, is about how God wants us to act on the twin cry of the earth and the poor. The resource is based on the belief that God gives us the vision and the motivation to act.
Pope Francis wrote, “…the present imbalance can only be reduced by our decisive action, here and now” (Laudato Si’ #161).
