On Monday 21st August 2023 the Corpus Christi College, Suva warmly welcomed the Guest Speaker Fr. Patrick McInerney, a missionary priest and a member of the Australian Catholic Council for Inter-religious Dialogue to speak to the trainee teachers. There were about 100 catholic trainee teachers who listened very attentively to the importance of Interreligious Dialogue on why there is a need for Dialogue.
Fr. Patrick McInerney mentioned it is a very important issue for Fiji's multicultural and multi-religious society. The sharing focused on key aspects of Interfaith Dialogue including meeting of people of different religions, listening to the other, building bridges and understanding, and working together among different religions. These Interfaith information, sharing, learnings towards religious and cultural diversity can convey to their future students with more training and experience.
Inter-religious Dialogue is dealing with grass-root people which is fantastic and dealing with their own faiths and building relationships, openness as a major part. This topic was important for the trainee students because through their profession and outcomes they can achieve the breakdown barriers of fear and division for a positive change. The seeds have been sown and hoping it will bear fruit in their lives and careers across the Pacific Island country.
