Diwali Message – Columban Interreligious Dialogue Coordinator

Diwali rows of lights. This was the scene when Lord Rama returned from exile. People lit diyas to welcome Him. It was a symbol to indicate their transformation from darkness to light, injustice to justice, untruth to truth, pain and suffering to healing, despair to hope and sadness to joy and happiness. We celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights because it brings light, justice, truth, joy, happiness, healing to people’s lives.

For the past two years the world has been very unfavorable to us. It has brought us a lot of fear, pain, suffering, loss of loved ones, uncertainty, frustrations, and many other experiences. Yet we carry on with our lives through perseverance, hoping that there is light at the end of the tunnel, believing and trusting that our Creator will help us to pass this phase of our lives in due course.

We Columbans, who believe and promote Interreligious Dialogue, wish the Hindu community of Fiji and the world a very happy and prosperous Diwali. We extend our prayers, thoughts, and friendship to you today, through Christ who is our Light

I wish you all a light-filled celebration that may touch your whole being. Happy Diwali.

Priscilla Magdalin.
