Why we dialogue

Why we dialoguePope Francis is very ardent about Inter-Religious Dialogue  (IRD). This is one of our Missionary Priorities.

We dialogue to bring people together who would not naturally sit down together and talk about important issues. It is a process to successfully relate to people who are different from you.

We dialogue because we let the meaning of conversation suggest a meaning flowing among, through and between us, out of which may emerge some new understanding.

We dialogue to promote better understanding and more creative cooperation between different people and groups that help reduce misunderstandings, conflicts and tension to ensure more successful interaction in the future. We dialogue because we let the meaning of conversation suggest a meaning flowing among, through and between us, out of which may emerge some new understanding. It involves active listening as well as talking. It implies accepting and respecting the views of others and trying to understand where they are coming from.

It makes it possible to share in service to the community. I believe it’s the key to strengthening religious tolerance, openness to dialogue and understanding of one another’s faith practices and beliefs.
