This is a report on the PEJ activities since the 19-20 August 2021 CLTA Meeting

ACRATH (Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans)

Peter was invited by the Australian Government to participate in its consultation process on the future arrangements for Australia’s Pacific labour mobility initiatives – the Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP) and the Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS). He joined a zoom consultation organised by DFAT that was joined by other welfare stakeholders. He also contributed to ACRATH’s written submission to the consultation process. Peter was one of two guest speakers to speak on the issue of Advocacy at ACRATH’s monthly conversation zoom session. 

Columban PEJ partnership with Catholic Mission

Catholic Mission – Perth Archdiocese invited the PEJ team to work in partnership with them on their Season of Creation ‘Prayer Plant initiative’. The PEJ team prepared a flyer to be included in the Columban Calendar mailing that will go out to schools and parishes in the Archdiocese of Perth.  In 2022 The PEJ team will also partner Catholic Mission - Perth in running workshops on Laudato Si’ for teachers in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. We have also made ourselves available for similar work in the Melbourne Archdiocese if Catholic Mission also decides to partner with us in Melbourne. 

Laudato Si’ Animators Melbourne Group

Meetings in August and October with the Archdiocese of Melbourne Director of Mission and Community Engagement and Liaison Officer were cancelled as the Archdiocese is heavily engaged in re-structuring.  The Community Engagement and Liaison Officer has since been appointed to another role and the Director of Mission will continue to be the point of contact for the group.  The Laudato SI’ Animators Melbourne Group hosted a World Day of Prayer for Creation on Sep 1st to mark the beginning of the Season of Creation.   Group members and guests attended the session via zoom.  The Laudato Si’ Animators Melbourne Group has contributed 2 articles on Season of Creation and COP 26, which were published on the Melbourne Archdiocese website. The members continue to network widely, share resources and are a point of contact for groups in parishes and agencies ...
